"Learn to sew in a fun and friendly atmosphere"

Classes and workshops in Kent and Sussex

About Sass

Hello and Welcome!

My name is Sass and I am the lead tutor here at The Sewing School.

Based in the beautiful East Sussex countryside, our aim is to provide you with weekly sewing classes, one day workshops and private tuition in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

I started sewing before I could read. I enjoy nothing more than passing my skills on to you, watching you grow, gaining confidence and reaching your creative potential.
I am a qualified tutor with over 35 years’ experience in sewing techniques and am CRB checked for your complete confidence. I have my own business designing and making wedding dresses and other specialist bespoke garments and accessories. I am also a textile artist, exhibiting with The Society of Designer Craftsmen and Prism in London.

In addition to my own courses I also deliver a range of sewing courses for a variety of education providers across East Sussex and West Kent. We also have guest tutors from time to time so we can offer you a truly broad spectrum of topics.
All aspects of sewing from beginners to more advanced and master classes are catered for. Subjects covered include dressmaking, pattern design and cutting, soft furnishing, machine embroidery, patchwork, quilting and appliqué to name but a few.

Places are limited so book early and start to learn alongside like minded people.

I can even design a class for you and your friends at a place of your choosing – perfect for parties and hen-do’s or just a get-together.

Sewing Surgery, Swap and Social on 24th February 2018

On the 24th February we are holding a “Sewing Surgery, Swap And Social”.

Come along between 10 am and 3pm for free advice and chat.

Bring whatever sewing project you’re currently working on that you need  help with and we’ll take a look at it. Bring a notebook and pen to take notes. Or, just come and have a nosey at what we do in the studio.

Meet other sewing enthusiasts and have a chinwag over a cuppa. Inspire each other and make new friends. Compare recommendations for good suppliers and resources and swap stuff you no longer want. (sorry no machines!)

Stuff for swapping should be clean and small enough to be easily carried. Suggestions are: remnants or short lengths of clean fabric, threads, small tools, patterns, new buttons, trims, etc.

To be able to take something away from the swap you must bring something in. All swaps are agreed between swappers. There is no monetary value; a swap is a swap and only agree to it if you are happy to part with what you bring. Three (or four)way swaps are ok only if you all agree to it.  No squabbling or you will be put on the naughty step!

Tea, coffee and biscuits provided as long as supplies last!

Private tuition

Private tuition is perfect for those who cannot make it to a class or workshop for a variety of reasons and can take the form of teaching or talks/demonstrations. It can be tailored to suit your needs and is suitable for individuals or groups; perfect for WI, Embroiderer’s Guild branches or get-togethers such as birthdays or hen-dos. Learn at your own pace and have fun at the same time!
You can come to my purpose built studio in Ninfield, East Sussex or, if you prefer, I can come to you, be that your home or any other suitable venue. Tuition is based around whatever skills you would like to explore. I cover all disciplines from basic sewing skills, understanding commercial patterns to soft furnishings, pattern design and cutting/adaptation, machine embroidery and applique, dressmaking and couture finishing techniques, patchwork and quilting, textile art including screen printing, dyeing and batik, felt making and lots more. I am also happy to design, develop and deliver longer courses in consultation with interest groups at a venue to suit. (Contact me for “day rates”)
