Weekly classes

We are taking a break for half term at the moment but start a new 5 week block on 31st October so if you’re interested, get in touch.

All weekly classes run in blocks of 5 at a time and last for two or two and a half hours each week, depending on the session. Numbers are limited to allow for comfort and increased interaction with individual students.

Weekly classes take place at one of 2 venues:-

1. Pumpkin Patch shop in Hailsham, East Sussex.

The room we use is on the first floor and you are welcome to bring your own machine and we will help you up the stairs with it. All we ask is that you make sure it has a valid PAT test. If you’re not sure, get in touch.

We do two sessions there on a Tuesday – 12:30 -2:30 and 2:45 -4:45.

2. My purpose built Studio in Ninfield, East Sussex.

We have sewing machines for you to use if you need them. If you bring your own it does not need to be PAT tested.

Tuesday morning 9:15am – 11:15am

Wednesday morning 9:30am- 12pm

Wednesday evening 7pm -9pm

Each block of five weeks requires booking and payment in advance and  there is a waiting list for slots that are full. There is usually a break in between blocks to coincide with school holidays. Do as many blocks as you wish. Topics are of your own choosing and are based around using the sewing machine to create home projects, creative textiles, and dressmaking. Work at your own pace in a fun, friendly atmosphere.

Classes include demonstrations, examples/samples to illustrate a point and written instructions where necessary. I also have a large collection of reference books and magazines to help inspire you. If you just need to finish a project but need the extra push or knowledge/expertise a class can give you then one block might be all you need or you can progress through a whole programme of projects, challenging yourself continually as you go.

If you are new to sewing and want to start at the beginning and build up skills and confidence then you can continue with the blocks for as long as you wish. You don’t even need to “make” anything at first, just practice some samples and experiment as you go. Projects are whatever you want them to be but you will be encouraged to maximise your potential and your skills in both hand and machine techniques.

Have a look at the Student’s Gallery to see what people have tackled in previous classes.

pattern-cutting-wheelPlease bring your own sewing kit, needles and threads with you, along with the fabrics and notions for your project. The shop in Hailsham does offer a discount for Sewing School students if you’ve forgotten anything and the staff are really helpful.

The studio in Ninfield holds stocks for sale of basics such as needles, interfacing and calico along with an extensive reference library for inspiration.

Don’t forget to bring something to sew every week and if you bring your own machine, remember the power supply and foot pedal! If you need to use one of our machines, please let me know beforehand as we have a limited number.

It’s also a good idea to bring your own needles even if you are using our machines as we cannot guarantee the size, quality or type of needle in the machine.

Overlockers are available for you to use but please bring your own threads as they do use a lot of it. You will need three or four reels of thread in the colour of your choice.

Let me know what you are interested in and I’ll get you some info to help you progress.
